Why Vitae Services? Vitae : Pronounced vee-tie is a throwback to when my company was founded in 1997. At the time I specialised in technology for the visually impaired, so Vitae was "Visual Impairment Technology Advice & Expertise" and it was also a relfection of the latin vita meaning 'life'. The aim was to help my clients get on with their lives and make sure the technology helped them and didn't get in the way. Having previously worked for the Department of Transport, Shell UK, Evesham Technology I finally spent five years working for the Royal National Institute of the Blind before I decided to setup as an independent consultant. Initially my work centred around assessments for visually impaired people in education and employment, as well as installing and training users on the equipment itself. As they years have passed this work has increasingly been given over to government agencies. So I applied the skills I had learned to work with regular domestic, office and corporate clients.

Previous clients include hundreds of individual users, through to larger organisations such as private companies, local authorities, healthcare trusts and even the Cabinet Office.

Case Study

We were asked my a small local consultancy to consolidate their existing technology and help with their expansion. As with many small businesses the equipment had grown organically with additional computers being added over the years as they were needed. But they had reached a point where the level of complexity had stared to mean that small organisational issues just got bigger each time they added a new computer or member of staff. Essentially what had started as a couple of laptops sharing a printer in a bedroom, had become an enterprise who needed to double their staff, relocate and keep juggling a lot of projects simultaneously. We sourced and supplied a mail server which allowed them to continue receiving mail for both themselves and also host clients mail for projects they were collaborating on. A new web address was supplied and configured to host their website. This was all relocated to a purpose built office facility which we custom cabled for the client. We are involved in ongoing support for their server and data storage and as they continue to expand a further relocation is being planned as well as rolling out an IP phone facility for their new location.
